Today is a historic day. Frasier C Puppykins was born November 10th, 2009 in the most humble of beginnings, however I soon fixed that.

After Willie passed away there was a hole in my heart that just couldn't be filled.. I was lost, sad, lonely, and confused. I was accustomed to 4 paws following my every step and two of the kindest eyes watching my every move. I knew I needed another pet. It took me months of researching to narrow down the type of puppy I would get. I looked into breeds with the same dedication I put into writing my Master's Thesis. Finally I decided I wanted a Boston Terrier. There was no way I could have another Springer Spaniel. It would just be too hard for me.

I also wanted a specific birth date. Only I am loony enough to believe astrology also effects the personalities of pets. A scorpio pup was the ONLY way to go for me. After all. The love of my life is a scorpio, I am a scorpio, the man of my dreams is a scorpio, I have lots of friends that are scorpios.
Baby Frasier C Puppykins

For weeks I scrutinized breeders on the Internet looking for a litter of Boston Terriers which would be born in November. In hindsight I was more concerned about when the puppy would be born rather than the quality of the breeder. Big Mistake. The breeder I eventually chose was nothing more than a puppy mill. In the back of my mind I knew this woman was wonky but I was so focused on my puppy being born in the week of the charmed I didn't listen to reason. Reason being Anne. I sent her a link to the website of the *cough* breeder and the only thing she could say was "PUPPY MILL" and if that wasn't enough she provided pictures.. Well.. Anne's type of clowning pictures.

I bought him anyway against Anne's MUCH better judgment. Even after the second installment of pictures.

Once I picked him up I saw for myself live, uncut, and in person how much of a terrible place the Puppy Mill actually was. My companion called it a "Redneck House" but in actuality it was a trailer with a bunch of dog houses outside. I couldn't wait to whisk my puppy away to freedom.

Him so cute!

Despite his paperwork, I am convinced he isn't a pure bread Boston Terrier. They are little dogs. Frasier is a Goliath with long model legs, although still has a ton of Boston Terrier traits. Either way. I just love him. He is a little badass, but he is mine. So happy happy birthday baby..

When I named him Frasier after the character Frasier on the TV show I had NO idea he would basically act just like him. Snobby and unconcerned with most people. Sullen and disapproving look on his face most of the time. Bossy. Affinity for ripping up paper.  Sleeping in his toy box, so all the toys are scattered everywhere. Hater of Bitter Apple Spray. Lover of all clothing products which belong to me. Bear humping even after being neutered. Fiercely protective of his Momma.. Luckily she loves you very much, little badass.

Oh and Frasier, thanks for not getting mad at me for accidentally getting Nair on you.. Twice. The hair grew back nicely.
I was worried that patch of missing hair would never grow back.

Every morning when I come home Frasier is always ecstatic to see me. He jumps, yelps and practically buzzes with unbridled joy at the sight of my work weary carcass. (Well not that work weary, as I don’t dig ditches or perform manual labor) It always makes me giggle a little how delighted he is just to have his Mommy home. To him my return never gets old. Eating the same thing twice a day, day in and day out doesn’t seem to wear on his nerves either.
I started thinking.. What does this puppy really care about? The things that compile his list are very simplistic. Number one. He cares about me. But then again? Who wouldn’t? I’m frickin wonderful. Second. He cares about using the restroom outside as when he does it INSIDE he gets a face full of bitter apple spray, a spanking, and a one way ticket to his crate. All things undesirable in his estimation. Third. He cares about the delivery of his breakfast, snack, and dinner. Also proper hydration is imperative to Frasier. Lastly he cares about playing preferably with yours truly Wonderful Oracle, in a pinch other dogs will do. So basically Frasier only cares about his basic needs.

In contrast, he DOESN’T care about all the silly shit that I seem to constantly obsess about. Frasier doesn’t care about my weight. Whether I am a size 6 (wonderful) or a size 12 (not as wonderful) he doesn’t give a damn. He also doesn’t care that no matter how much I exercise or do crunches I have a poochy belly. Frasier doesn’t care if I am not wearing make up or my hair isn’t brushed and styled to perfection. In fact he likes my hair loose and wild so he can paw at it while I am trying to take a nap. Frasier doesn’t care about my job at all. No matter how tired I am, or if clients have gotten on my nerves all night he could care less. Frasier doesn’t care if the house is a mess and there is laundry piled up as high as skyscrapers in New York City. Actually he aids in the destruction of the house as soon as his toys are put away he drags them right out of the toy box and places them exactly where he believes they belong. Nope. Frasier doesn’t have OCD high cleanliness standards pertaining to our shared habitat.
Another thing he doesn’t care about.. My car. He doesn’t judge me if the car is not washed and shining like a black pearl. As long as we can jump in it and go places he is perfectly content. Frasier doesn’t care that I have become a recluse. Actually he seems to like it as I am spending all of my free time being his entertainment. My lack of a sex life is just fine with him.  Another thing that has never crossed his mind is the fact I will inevitably need to get braces AGAIN. Due to the lack of wearing my retainers my teeth aren’t movie star perfect anymore. Puppykins doesn’t even notice what my teeth look like. He also doesn’t have a concept of “bad food”.  Fried chicken, pizza, ice cream, cupcakes, greasy Chinese food, French fries… To him all food is good food till he ate a big chunk of one of my hairpieces and threw it up. He doesn’t care that I haven’t finished my PHD or that I am divorced. Nope. Doesn’t faze him at all.  The copious amounts of television I watch or how I voraciously read is of no concern to Frasier. To him it is snuggle up with Mommy time and snore so loudly she has to turn the sound up.

So I find myself thinking.. If Frasier doesn’t give a damn about these things, why the hell should I? He might be on to something.
He does care about getting a bath. Unfortunately, Momma doesn't like for Puppykins to smell like taco corn chips in the sun, so he will be getting one of those.

Well I have had Frasier for about 4 months now and I can say with great confidence; he is shaping up to be a great dog. It was touch and go for a little while, but now things have balanced out. We know each other now and can finally enjoy the other’s company.

To this day I completely believe I picked him up from the breeder way way way too early. Puppykins had no idea how to be a dog. He was this whiney mass of fur and sounds which although delighted me he also drove me crazy with his constant mewing He needed too much attention. I was really starting to regret getting another dog and really really missed Willie. Housebreaking a puppy just isn’t fun at all. Then the magic happened. Puppykins got older. We started going to the dog park weekly… Now he is an amazing dog. I love him so much and can’t recall a time when he wasn’t around.

When I come home in the morning from work he is waiting patiently (rather impatiently) for me to let him out of his crate. No matter how tired I am I smile and say, “Release the Kraken”. That is his cue to dart out of his cage and run to the back door. We nap together, play together, watch TV together.. Go to the dog park. Go to Pet Smart. Whenever he is in the car he has to have one paw on my arm as if he is helping me drive. This never fails to make me smile. We have our own schedule. We do our own thing. Puppykins and I are a motley crew and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have to send a special prayer of thanks to Willie, because without him teaching me how to be a great momma, Puppykins wouldn’t be as well taken care of as he is. Willie broke me in, taught me the ropes, and for that I will be forever grateful for the 17 years of uncondional love he gave me. Willie.. I know you are never far away, and although I love this new bundle of silliness, he will never ever take your place in my heart.  I love you Willie.. You are my best friend and always will be. Keep Dad company till I see you guys again.
